Genuine vintage screw back earrings are vintage jewellery with a screw mechanism for tightening to the ear. This includes true vintage screw back styles and some clip on earrings that have an additional screw mechanism for tightening.

All these screw back earrings are antique, vintage and second hand. Vintage screw back earrings were invented before the clip on style. First patented in the late antique 1800s in Victorian times. Not as popular but used more extensively in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s when after that they started to declined in use. Still made up to the nineties. Very much a fashion history piece but still perfectly wearable. Ideal to collect as will only be seen soon in a museum!
